Ski and Fun

From the Napoleonvilla it takes only ten minutes to reach the ski lift center at Katschberg. Here you will find 70 kilometers of slopes, 16 modern lifts, and the coziest ski huts in the Alps. Snow reliability is guaranteed thanks to the altitude between 1,640 and 2,220 meters.

100% of the slopes are equipped with state-of-the-art snowmaking systems. Most of the runs are of medium difficulty, while beginners can enjoy easy slopes. For kids, there is a fun park with a mini-jet and talking comic figures. Short waiting times at the lifts and perfectly groomed slopes guarantee fun and variety.

The dream in white is secured by a seamless network of modern and environmentally friendly snowmaking systems. The two ski areas, Aineck and Tschaneck, are connected by a ski bridge in the center.

Additional comfort is provided by a conveyor belt. Throughout the ski area, a well-designed people guidance system and modern slope signage help with orientation.

Hiking and Mountain Biking

The summit and hiking tours in the Katschberg region are almost countless. From the Bonner Hütte, for example, you can hike to the Schöngelitzhöhe or to the Aineck. From there directly to the Gamskogelhütte.

The Pöllatal offers a varied Stream Adventure Trail, and the Wolfsbachtal is known as the “Valley of 1000 Orchids.”

Professionally organized tours are also regularly offered to the Kareck, the source of the Lieser River, the Lanisch Lakes, the Hafner, and the Gontal Pass. A brand-new addition to the program are tours for GPS treasure hunters: Geocaching.

Cyclists are just as lucky: 200 kilometers of approved forest roads and cycling trails at Katschberg as well as another 400 km of mountain bike trails in the Lungau and Nock regions – all surrounded by the breathtaking scenery of two national parks (Hohe Tauern and Nockberge) – making the Katschberg region one of the most diverse mountain biking areas in Austria. There is much to discover. Find the bike program and tours here. An overview of the many huts and refreshment stops is available here.

Horseback Riding and Farm Life

For everyone who loves horses and riding, this region is simply perfect. Experienced riders enjoy trail rides through the fresh forest air, past blooming mountain meadows and rushing alpine streams. Beginners can take their first rounds on horseback either in Austria’s highest riding hall with 1,650 m2 or right at the Aschbacher riding farm, located directly next to the Napoleonvilla. Especially popular with children are the good-natured Haflingers.

Hunting and Fishing

Rennweg am Katschberg, due to its location on the edge of the Hohe Tauern National Park region, offers interesting hunting opportunities and regularly attractive game for red deer, stag, chamois, ibex, marmot, capercaillie, and much more. For interested hunters, advice and guidance are available. Information upon request.

The Lieser Valley and the Pöllatal are also popular spots for anglers and those who would like to become one. No fishing license is required, and children are welcome, from April to November. Fly fishing requires more skill. And if, against all odds, you don’t manage to catch your own trout, you can best enjoy it “blue” (poached) or fried in a restaurant.

Fishing permits are issued by Bernhard Tischitz (+43-676 838 451 07) at the Raiffeisenbank Rennweg. A day permit costs 40 euros (maximum 4 fish allowed – char and brown trout). Website
